JSS Howrah intervenes in the following thrust areas. :

Vocational Courses. :
JSS conducts vocational courses of different types with a view to open the self-employment or wage employment opportunities to the young generation. It imparts vocational training for skill formation, skill up gradation and increase productive ability of the trainees which ultimately leads to open the income generation avenues. JSS conducts different courses at it premises as well as at the door step of the beneficiaries. It has been possible to establish rapport with the Zilla Parishad, Panchyat Samities and Gram Panchyats during the last eight years. It may be mentioned here that all the courses are non-residential and the most experienced and expert resource persons conduct these courses. Not only the technical skill but also the participants in each course are provided with some management skill, EDP component and Life Enrichment Education component which includes health & Hygiene, safe water, population explosion & its relationship with development, low cost nutritious food, sanitation, environmental education, legal education, Aids & its impact on the society etc. depending upon the nature, duration of the courses varies from 30 days to 180 days. While conducting the courses it laid emphasis more on practical work and field exposure along with the theoretical knowledge.
Activities. :
With a view to being about a visible change in the life style of the target group people, JSS Howrah conducts Awareness Generation Programmes on different issues and observed the important days which are directly related to the life of the people.
